Erin en Italia: Things that surprised me about Italy

Things that surprised me about Italy:

  • The doors open the opposite way. In the U.S. you pull a door to enter a shop and push to exit. In Italy, you push to enter and pull to exit. That was weird.
  • Italians eat a LOT at each meal (usually 3 courses.)
  • Italians don't eat many: fruits, veggies or milk
  • They don't tear down old buildings like we do, they just renovate them.
  • People that live in Venice don't really use gondolas, they use water taxis and their own boats.
  • Italian sounds a lot like Spanish except it's prettier sounding
  • All the little side-of-the-street stores carry the same items!
  • You often have to pay to use a public restroom
  • There are so many different ways to flush toilets.
  • People drive CRAZY!!!
  • Police officers wear very fancy uniforms
  • Everybody has a dog
  • The roads curve a lot and are very narrow
